Starla

I sent an email about two hours ago, and it worked fine. However, it is now
not working. Here is the error. I did what it said to do, but all of the
settings were already at what it suggested. Ugh!

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

Any suggestions?

You left out the most important part of the error message.
It should look something like this:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account:
'pop.myisp.com', Server: 'smtp.myisp.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Here is the total msg:

The rejected e-mail address was (deleted for the public) Account:
'mail.mchsi.com', Server: 'mail.mchsi.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response:
'550 [PERMFAIL] destination not valid within DNS', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

I deleted what the actual msg was and where it was going, but I don't think
that interferes with the error msg. Thanks for your help!

The ISP you are connected to is blocking port 25 for all SMTP servers but
its own. If mchsi.com doesn't offer another port (probably with different
security settings) then you'll have to send using your account at your ISP.

I'm going to assume that you are sending from home and that
Mediacom is your home ISP. If either of those assumptions is
incorrect let me know.

It sounds like there was something wrong with the recipient's
email address. Can you give me just the part after the @ symbol?
