We are Currently Migrating From Novell to Microsoft Server 2003, Exchange
2003 and the Office 2003 suite.

We are creating contacts in Active Directory who are listed in the GAL
(Global Address List); but, it would seem we are having difficulties
performing a mail merge as word 2003 when following thru the wizard only
seems to allow for you to select contacts from your personal exchange address
book and not the GAL.

Has anyone else seen this?

There must be a way for MS Word or any other office application to connect
to active directory and pull data out (in my case contacts specifically). AD
is a database when it comes down to it. Does anyone have pertinent
information on how this can be achieved -- Mail Merging Contact Objects
Created in Active Directory that are listed in the Global Address List?

Thank You.

Yes, this is "expected behavior". What you can do is to view the addresses as
Contacts in Outlook. Then, still in Outlook, start the mail merge over
Tools/Mail merge. Outlook gives you a number of options not available when
merging from Word, including selecting the currently displayed contacts as the
merge data source.
