I recently had to purchase a new computer. Old PC ran Win98, new runs
WinXP. Transferred all files including Outlook 2000 and Word 2000.

For instance I treid to print an envelope in word by accessing addresses in
Outlook. Got two error messages.

One says that I need to open Outlook and designate it as default e-mail
client. Cannot figure out how to do that.

Second message says that need to run Microsoft Exchange in order to access
the address book. Cannot find any file relating to Microsft Exchange on my
computer.

Any suggestions?

The second line in help/about says "internet mail only" but I think
what you are asking about is 9.0.0.2711.

I transferred all files from the old computer to the new via USB and the
software "PC Relocator" All other Outlook functions seem to be working
perfectly. Mail, accessing the contacts, Calendar etc directly from
Outlook.

This is not going to be good.
You still did not tell me how your "transferred your file" and configured
Outlook to use it.
Whatever you did, you have broken the connection between the address book
service and your Contacts Folder and that is next to impossible to repair in
"internet mail only" mode.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tranferred your file" then. The software
"PC Relocator" transfers all files via USB from one computer to the next
including the registry and its settings. I didn't have to configure
anything. All other functions of Outlook are working just fine. It's the
interface between Word and Outlook that is the problem. I have no problem
within Outlook in using the contacts file or any other file or function.

So was this an entire drive image you transferred?

Yes the entire drive was transferred.

You cannot just
transfer Outlook's information store (PST file). Outlook must be told
expressly to use a PST file and configure it as its default.
Tell me this. When you Start a new mail message in Outlook and click
on the To: button to invoke your Outlook Address Book, do your
Contacts all appear correctly in the Address Book?

Yes, all contacts appear correctly.

So the problem is only with Word, not Outlook?
Have you tried a Detect and Repair?

Run it from the Help menu of any Office program.
Make sure you have your Office CD handy.
