Recently I went to a LAN party at my high school the first boot went great
but later when running Doom 3 at too high of a video quality (low) my
computer froze up completely. There was nothing I could do to un-freeze my
computer and after sitting there for about 10 minutes praying for a
miraculous recovery, I decided to just hold down the power button and force
it to shut down. Though turning off ones computer in this way is rarley
harmful to the hardware or OS, it can reek havic on some programs. Now, only
MSN messenger, Norton Anti-Virus (but not Norton Internet Security 2004) and
the icon for my internet conection will star up, while there used to be and
ATI icon, a mouse icon, a sound icon, a NIS icon, and some other programs as
well. I tweeked msconfig, I went into all those programs and set them to
start up and system start up, and I made sure that the option to dissplay an
icon on the task bar was enabled. This has happend to me in the past and I
finaly ended up formating my computer because it needed to be done anyways.
Is there anything I can do to bring back my seemingly magically vanishing
icons?
Thanks for any help and if it's not too much trouble please reply to my
