I have a client who is running Excel 97. My spreadsheet
contains macros, and they cannot open the file. My guess
is their security is set too high. Where is the security
setting on '97?

My other guess is '97 cannot recognize '02 or '00 files??

Does anyone have a solution, or know what the problem
might be?

The file formats for xl97 through xl2002 is the same, so that's not it.

If it were the macro security too high, then they should still be able to open
the workbook. But they won't be able to run the macros.

If you emailed the workbook to them, you may want to try emailing a fresh copy
to them. Maybe it got corrupted in the ether!

I've read posts that descibe problems sending excel attachments in Outlook if
the sender uses RTF (rich text format). If you use Outlook, try sending in
plain text or HTML.

Sometimes it's easier to zip the workbook and send that as the attachment. I
use winzip (http://www.winzip.com) as my file compression program. It has a try
before you buy policy.

David McRitchie has suggested UltimateZip (http://www.ultimatezip.com) a free
program that zips and unzips.

(I've never used it, but David likes it.)

And xl97 has two levels for macros--ok or not ok. IIRC, it's under:
Tools|Options|Security Tab.
