Machine shutdowns over and over again

Hello,

I see there is a lovely virus going around again, but what does it do to
your machine?

I'm worried that my second machine has it. When I load it up, everything
seems fine, but after I've typed in my login password and got into Windows
it automatically starts to shutdown (like I have selected it from the Start
Menu). I thought it might be the power button being stuck but then it would
shutdown on the login screen. And it's not because the machine is over
heating as the temperature in the BIOS is fine and there is no alarm going
off (which I've set up).

Any ideas why it's doing this?

What operating system?
Are there any messages?
If so exactly what?
The details you left out leave only a guess...
Sasser Worm is making the rounds:

Download the latest McAfee Stinger virus utility. It should detect the
current viruses (including Sasser) and it fits on a diskette.

Well I would have thought the OS was obvious in a Windows XP newsgroup ;-)

And I mentioned that is just shuts down (i.e. no error messages).

And I also mentioned about this latest virus (which you mention is Sasser).

Kol;
With all the newsgroups I view, I forgot this was a Windows XP
newsgroup.
Sasser is really a worm, and there are always new viruses and worms,
just this is the virus of the day, that is why I gave the link.
Did you follow the link carefully?

Try #1, #5, & #6 on this link to look for viruses and spyware:

According to a check on the MS site my computer does NOT have the Sasser
virus. I already have ALL patches from WU, but it still shutdowns almost
immediately after it's fully loaded up into Windows.

I will look at the links and see if any help.
