Machine reboots - rebuild MBR?

I have a machien that continually reboots. However, it doesn't get as
far as showing any vestige of Windows. I can boot Bart's PE fine, and
view the hard disks, which seems to me to point to a corrupted MBR. I
intend to boot from the CD and fix the MBR, which shouldn't at least
make the system worse!

Any comments from anyone?

Cheers,

Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Whether or not the mbr is the problem remains to be seen - what happens when
you try to boot the system normally? What else have your tried thus far?

When I tried to boot it would get as far as the hardware summary then
it would reboot. No Windows screens at all, no messages.

It's fixed though. fixboot and fixmbr didn't make any difference, but
I found that the ntdetect.com was missing(!). Copied it from another
machine and it was fine.

I've still got no root cause. Plenty of KN articles on how to fix boot
problems, but very little on *how* they happen.

Cheers,

Cliff
