Hello:

I was trying to install XP professional on my machine. I have formatted the
machine and started the installation. After copy the files from CD the
machine rebooted. From this stage its not getting installed. It keeps looping
at this stage.

I have tried installing Windows ME edition also. After the installtion, the
machine rebotteda sking for Username/Password. After entering the username,
it immediately jumps back to the scan disk window showing. After the scan
disk the machine reboots. It keeps looping.

Could any one please suggest.....

Hi, Biju.

What make and model computer (or motherboard, if you built it yourself)?
Probably more important, tell us about your hard drives, especially the one
you are using as the boot device. I don't know much about WinME and this IS
a WinXP newsgroup, so let's focus on WinXP.

This is the classic symptom of trying to install WinXP onto a HD for which
the drivers are not on the WinXP CD-ROM. Currently, we see it when trying
to install WinXP onto a new SATA hard drive. That's why we need to know
what kind of HD is your boot device. WinXP Setup knows how to partition and
format the HD and copy files to it, but the computer can't actually boot
from that HD until support for it has been integrated into YOUR copy of
WinXP. So, after the text phase of Setup finishes, when the computer tries
for the first time to boot from that HD, it can't. The classic symptom is a
BSOD complaining of Stop 0x7B, Inaccessible_Boot_Device, but sometimes there
are other symptoms, such as the one you are seeing.

If that is the problem in your case, then you need to get the proper drivers
for your HD/controller combination onto a floppy and then boot from the
WinXP CD-ROM to start Setup again. Early in the process, there will be a
brief message saying something like, "Press F6 to install drivers for mass
storage devices." Press F6 and wait until the file-copying is complete and
the computer will stop with instructions on how to use the floppy to install
the drivers. Then the reboot should be successful and you should be able to
complete the GUI phase of Setup.

Let us know if this helps - or doesn't.
