Machine freezes on restore window

A few months ago I upgraded my PC, and shortly afterwards it started
freezing, requiring a reboot.

At first I suspected a hardware problem, but then I noticed that it
only happens when I move the cursor to the taskbar and click to
restore a minimised window.

This had happened about thirty times now - sometimes it happens a
couple of times a day, sometimes I can go a couple of weeks before it
freezes again.

It does not seem to be load related - it has only happened when the PC
has been fairly idle.

I do tend to have a number of applications open at once, perhaps ten
or so. Also I leave my PC on 24/7.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions, as this is a really
irritating problem.

Possibly - that's why I mentioned the number of apps I have open at once.

Is it a known problem with XP that it will sometimes freeze the PC when you
try to restore an app if there are too many of them?
