mac problem opening 2001 powerpoint in 2003

Hi

I am trying to open a presentation created in powerpoint 2001 under Mac OS 9.1 on a machine running powerpoint 2003 under OS 10. The presentation is not recognised as powerpoint (icon), if i open powerpoint and try to open the presentation I receive the error

unexpected error ocurred error code -1081

Being fairly new to Macs, I'm unsure where to start on this
