LU1814 error on many symantec anti virus clients

The error is result in manual update of the anti virus definitions. The
clients are no longer receiving updates. the only solution from
Symantec is to uninstall and reinstall the client. Excuse me, but Why
is this going on and why isn't Symantec providing a better solution?

Why it's going on is because Symantec software has too many
faults and deficiencies to list. They don't care about support.
The only better solution is alternate vendor's products.

when the automatic update engine gets corrupt 'for some reason' this seems
the only avenue. after uninstall of the software (server situation? then
only needs to be done there) use the cleaner tool on the symantec website
before re-install

Last time I messed around with it, Live Update did not update itself.
You had to go to Symantec's site and download the latest version of
Live update. Then after you updated Live Update, Live Update would
update the rest of the Symantec software. Haven't been to Symantec's
site in a long time - so not sure if static updates are even still
available.

The cause of the problem may be hijackware.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

forums for expert analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Why aren't you hammering Symantec about this. It is their problem, and
yours. You are a pair. Work it out.

I say, **Dump Symantec* anything.

Why don't you ask Symantec?

Is there a certificate error like in early January 2004? That wrecked
everybody's NAV for weeks. Wait until some time passes before doing anything
drastic. Answers may arrive in time.
