lsass.exe-System Error

I am working on a friends laptop computer running
windowsXP and at startup I get the message "Lsass.exe-
system error when trying to update a password this return
status indicates that the value provided as the current
password is not correct." has anyone had the same problem
if so how can I resolve this without reloading

A suggested fix that seems to work on a regular basis without reloading the
system is to use Recovery Console and run a "chkdsk /r".
