LSASS.exe, SVCHOST.exe (NOT SCVHOST - the virus)

At least once a day these d*&^ files slow my computer to a crawl!
What can I do to stop it or at least reduce it?

Those are legitimate Windows files and are not responsible for slowing
your computer "to a crawl". Something else is. However, since I know
nothing about your computer, all I can suggest is general
troubleshooting:

Make sure the computer is clean:

These are the only services doing anything in task manager each
reports using a percentage of the processor - so, yes, they are the
ones slowing the computer.

Something is causing these services to run and use time. The most likely
thing is malware, and you should follow malke's suggestions.
Thoie same programs run on mine, and they definitely do not slow my computer
to a crawl.
