Hi~

I added 'Printer Port' component and 'ECP Printer Port' component through
TD.
But the XPE image created after FBA doesn't have LPT port on device manager
even though M/B device has LPT port and it works fine.

Anyone can help me?

David Gu

David,

Can you send us setupapi.log file to this NG?

David,

I do not see what is the problem but your driver might not be present:
Solve all problems related to error: "There are no compatible drivers" that
you can see in setupapi.log
Some of VID/PID numbers might match your Parallel Port.

What MB/Chipset do you use?

Slobodan

so, it's strange, i think~.

sure, all dependencies are resolved, and it's SP2.
Local Printing component is already added.

David,

Maybe you don't have a right answer to my question right away but - did you try that MB with XP Pro SP2?
And how SetupApi.log looks there?

Also, by any chance do you have a custom custom component in your Configuration that brings some registry entries under
[HKLM\System] hive? Or in TD Extra Registry section?

KM

Hi, KM.

I didn't have tried to install XP Pro SP2, but I have another P4P800SE set
which is installed XPE SP1.
Do you need it's SetupApi.log?

And, I don't have any registry modification on HKLM\System.

Thank you.

David,

Yes, the log from the same hardware running under SP1 may also be helpful.
And the printer port was working there?

On ICH5 I never had problems with paralel port.
Have you resolved all dependencies?
Is this SP2, SP1?

Try adding this component for test purposes only: It should not be relevant
to you but who knows: "Local Printing"

David,

I would tell you VID/PID to look for (I875 chipset) but on all my computers
I have disabled LPT port in BIOS so my XPP do not see them. I really don't
have a need to LPT ports.
Maybe on that computer you did the same. Try moving to second computer that
work. There is just no software reason why simple thing as LPT do not want
to work.

David,

That surprised me that the "Printer Port Logical Interface" gets installed on this XPe SP1 system on yours but it was not there in
the SP2's SetupApi.log. (microsoftrawport958a ID)

Probably a silly question of mine, but is the "Device: System" there in your SP2 configuration?

Hi Mike,

I actually meant I had no idea either :-)
Why? Do they cause problems?

Unlikely LPT port can cause any problems.
However, if you don't use some hardware feature you don't want to keep related drivers and related application stack loaded. This is
especially important on XPe where you want to keep your image footprint and RAM usage as low as possible. Plus, the logs (e.g.,
SetupApi.log) is cleaner.

And keep in mind that as less software you have running on your image as less problems/security holes/bugs you get there.
I just ignore them. Should I be disabling them if I don't use them?

Definitely up to you. But you probably want to disable it before you run TAP on the same device under WinPE.

Regards,
Konstantin

Hi Mike,

It is like Konstantin said it is up to you. But I prefer disabling all
features that I know for sure that I will never use.
In LPT case you might free one IRQ and few KB of RAM. Not that this matter
too much but there are other things as well that you can disable.

Regards,
Slobodan
