hi,
I've tried to access my LPT port in WinXP, have installed "Winio" and
"Userport" with no luck.
Any other suggestion?

If computer was provided by a responsible vendor, then
diagnostics are available, for free, to first determine if
that hardware is even functional. Strip problem down to its
simplest parts. Eliminate WinXP as a reason for
complication. Simply run a basic diagnostic - to verify that
hardware works. Once that is known, only then are you ready
to question other problems such as WinXP, printer driver,
printer cable, and printer.

Of course this is XP - an NT type of OS. Therefore such
problems are being stored in system (event) logs. What did
they report?

Try going to device manager/ports/printer port and on the Port Settings tab
try turning on the "Enable legacy Plug and Play detection" for LPT1". That
worked for a friend to enable his printer. If you need an interrupt for
the port try enabling that option as well.
