Can anyone tell me, If I save the files and folders that I want to keep and
then reset my computer to the factory settings and go through the whole
process of reinstalling the system disc, will this sort the problem of low
memory?

See reply to your other post.

Note that the duplicate message problem you're having has to do with the web
interface to these newsgroups. Try using a news client, such as Forte Agent,
Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express, instead. It's a lot easier to do
nearly everything that way. You can mark messages to be watched, filter the
views so you can see replies to your posts easily, and search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

No, and I think you have hard disk space and memory confused.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM This is memory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk This is hard disk.

In brief, your hard disk is like your computer's filing cabinet, memory is
like your computer's scratch pad that it uses to keep track of what it's
running.
