In LOTUS 123 you can fill a cell with any character by
putting a bachslash in front of it. For example I use \-
and \= as my underline and double underline when totaling
a column of numbers. This allows me to include the
underline cell in the formula so if I need to add more
numbers below the bottom one my formula does not need to
be changed and the bottom cell does not need to be
formatted to add the underline. How can I do that in
EXCEL?

One way:

Enter your character, then choose Format/Cells/Alignment and choose
"Fill" from the "Horizontal" dropdown.
