lot's of freezes and error reports

I will just be surfing the web and I will get freezes, and error reports that say internet explorer must shut down do you want to send an error report. I have this computer a year or two and I never did any upgrades or anything like that from the website. Will that help this problem now or is it something totally different and how do I find out.
 
Check for updates for your machine there should be a large number of them if you have never updated. It will scan your machine and give you a list. You can update most of them at the same time or one at a time. I would suggest looking over them because some of the updates you may not need. The critical updates I would download one at a time.

I would suggest that you get and run Ad-Aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) and/or
Spybot (www.security.kolla.de). I suspect that your system has an amount
of unstable spyware. These will help remove it.
