Ive read most of the threads pertaining to this and I just need a solid
answer on my situation.
I don't have the sleeve ( or its somewhere in my storage) and I dont have
the sticker on the computer/cd whatever. I feel dumb. I bought XP Pro from
a store, so im guessing a retail version. Ive seen Bruce Chambers saying as
long as I got proof of purchase in his copy and paste speech =p
Unfortunately, I bought Pro in 2003 and I don't have the receipt.
Im tempted to call micrsoft hotline anyways. A friend and myself both came
up that microsoft should have kept my information when I activated it. I had
to reinstall windows xp because I deleted some of the files.
So basically, do I have a shot when I call microsoft to replace my code?

Only if you "registered" your copy of Windows XP.
Registering is a separate process from "activation"
since Microsoft does not request or collect personal
information during activation.

likely, if you activate and register, unless like most people just activate
and not bother to register

I thought the retail version has a pretty big jacket (folder actually),
almost the size of the box but about 1/4 inch thick.

Mine is most blue folder about 8x9 Inch

If the computer still runs, download a copy of Belarc Adviser from
www.belarc.com.
Print out the resulting review of your computer and save it in a file.
Belarc Adviser will identify all of your hardware and software by name,
serial number and product key code. Then you will have a copy.

I recommend all my customers use this program for a record of their computer
hardware and software.
Both for future tech support and for insurance records.
Remember to run another copy each time you change hardware or add software.
