Someone sabotaged my computer by deleting my user
profile. I can only enter thru limited account now. I
need to regain administrator status and recover the files
that were in a folder on the desktop of the lost user
account. Any suggestions. Is there a service pack that
helps or other software I should get.

Thanks.

For XP Pro: With no user logged on to the computer, press CTRL-ALT-DEL
twice and enter Administrator, and any password that you may have put on the
Administrator account during setup.

For XP Home: Boot the computer into Safe Mode. The built in Administrator
account will appear on the Welcome Screen.

For recovering your files, as long as they didn't tell the system to delete
your files, along with the user account, then they'll be in Documents and
Settings\<username>\Desktop. You'll need to use the built in Administrator
account, or any Administrator level account to "take ownership".

See Help and Support and search for "take ownership"
