Hello, I'm using XP-Home.
Yesterday while working on an MS Access program we lost power to the house
for about 1-2 seconds and the computer turned off. My first thought was
great, just lost last 20 minutes work (since last backup).
I turned computer back on and Windows went to it's blue notification screen
that windows was improperly shut down and it would check the disk drive. I
let it do this and then it started up normally.
To my shock, the entire folder for the program I was working in was gone.
Didn't show in Explore. Also all the sub-folders are gone, as shown in
example below:
Before: C:/Folder-A, Sub-folder B, additional sub- folders B-1, B-2, B-3,
and so on. There are program and data files in all the sub-folders.
After: C:/Folder-A. None of the other folders show in the directory.
However, in C:/Folder-A, mixed in with the files in that top-level folder,
there is a file named "Hageman" which was the name of my Sub-folder B. It
has no file extension, and it's identified as type: File, 4 Kb in size. It
appears that somehow the folder got saved as a file. I'm hoping the
original folders/files are still out there somewhere. All the backups were
in one of the other sub-folders that is also missing.
Is there a way to tell windows that "Hageman" is a folder and not a file?
And does anybody know just what in the world happened?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
