Strange thing happening to one of the users I support. Everyday I have to
remove the sound card from the Device Manager and let Windows redetect it.
It doesn't matter what he does, this always happens. Any ideas why?

The user is running Windows XP Pro on a domain. There is no group policy
setting interfering with this and the system is clean of viruses and
malware.

What sound card? And the status of the sound card drivers?

Drivers are installed and are the latest available from Dell for SoundMAX
Integrated Digital Audio.

An on-board sound card. Any resource conflicts, typically
from a peripheral that might have been added after the Dell
was delivered from the factory? The direction I am going is
that the system was probably pre-configured at the factory
and an added service or peripheral is knocking it out. Are
the start-up Windows XP sounds played?

Start up sounds are played. No devices are attached directly to it to cause
a conflict.
