Hi

When downloading an upgrade I lost my Word (the W) & IE (the E) icon. All I
have is a white box in place of each icon

Can anyone tell me how I can fix these two icon..(I was able to retreive all
the others).. Oh I forgot to add: when I right clicked on them and went in to
Properties there was nothing that would allow me to change icons

Thanks kindly

Fipsey,

What was the update you were doing when you lost those icons?

Do you use domain profiles? I ask because you may have a corrupt profile.
Otherwise:

With the IE icon you can open Internet Explorer, click the TOOLS menu then
click Internet Options. Now, navigate to the advanced tab. Just before the
underline links options tick the box, click apply then click ok. If the box
is already ticked, clear it, click apply tick it again, click apply then
click ok

The Word icon can be re-created by click send to Desktop (create shortcut).
You can find it in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office' then your office
subfolder depending on the version. Example: Office11. Navigate to Winword &
its this file you can right-click...

Another way you could do it is right-click the Desktop | New | Shortcut,
click browse & navigate to the folder specified earlier, click on WINWORD &
click OK. Click NEXT then type a name for the shortcut then click FINISH

If you want to use command line switches then view this page I just found:

Hope this helps,

Hi Newbie Coder

Thanks for the info
The update that was done was, I think, a patch from Microsoft.. I have tried
your suggestion & it seems to have worked
Thanks again: fipsey
