I have a friend who ran Defrag while Outlook 2003 was running. He has
Windows XP as the operating system. Now his email profiles have all been
deleted and I am not sure if/how to get his emails/address book/calendar/etc
back. First, is there a way to figure out what might have happened? And
second (more importantly), how can I get the old profile restored?

I do not have an answer as to what happened but I can tell you what you can
try to recover the e-mails/address book/calendar/etc. What you want to do
is to locate the Personal Folder File (.pst). All of that data is stored in
the .pst file. You need to search the harddrive for *.pst to locate the
pst file that contains the data. Then you will need to create a new
profile and select this .pst file as the default personal folder file. If
you need more indepth information on any of these steps let me know and I
can send them to you. When searching remember to make sure that the
settings are set to show hidden files and folders and to not hide file
extensions for known file types.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Robert, I had something similar happen. A profile was removed
accidentally and therefore that user info under Docs & Settings is no
longer visable also. SO how does one find the .pst file for that
particular user/setting. Does Win2Kpro deleted the pst file when the
profile is removed?

When you remove a Windows user profile, I believe you are asked if you want
to delete or keep the files associated with that profile. If the choice it
made to delete them, they're gone. The PST normally resides in the user
profile so, yes, it's gone.
is it hidden or marked for deletion? Is there someway to recover it or
restore it?

If you have an undelete utility and very little time has elapsed since it
was deleted, you may be able to recover it. If neither, then you're out of
luck.
