I applied the password that is required before you are able to get to the change system settings screen before loading Windows XP. I have a Gateway and it asks for the passowrd while the Gateway logo is on the screen during booting up. After I restarted my computer the password I entered won't work. Is there anyway to bypass this password so I can log into my computer?

Are you saying that you went into the computer bios and installed a
password, and now you can get into your operating system?

Check your manual and/or contact Gateway.
If it is a Desktop, there is a jumper inside you need to briefly move.
If it is a laptop, you may need to send it in for service.

Yes, I believe that's correct.

You are going to have to reset your bios. Note that by doing this all
settings will revert to a default value, which may not be correct for your
particular system.

There is a small, coin sized, battery on your M/B. Turn off the computer and
unplug it from the wall outlet. Then remove the battery for about 10
minutes. This will clear the bios and allow you to start over again. In
isolated cases you may have to leave the battery out for an extended length
of time. It is up to you to decide.
