My computer recently crashed, and among other things, all
of the messages in Outlook disappeared. I need these.
Can't find them anywhere. May have been an archive
issue???

Somebody PLEASE help me.

Search your drive for files with a .PST extension. If you're using Windows
2000 or XP, you'll need to search in hidden and system folders to find .PST
files.

I ran find> *.pst and found 2 files. I believe I tried
this before and they did not contain the missing emails.
Just in case, could you instruct me what I should do next?

Also, how can I specify that I wish to search hidden and
system folders.

Did you open them with Outlook using File>Open?
Also, how can I specify that I wish to search hidden and
system folders.

In Windows Explorer, click Tools>Folder Options and click the View tab.
Select the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button. I personally
uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" check box. Click "OK".

No good. The pst files I can find contain nothing. It's
as if my outlook just opened fresh. My signatures are
gone, all my messages are gone- in,sent, archived,
everything. This is starting to pinch my business, as not
all my emails were converted to contacts.

It's got to be here somewhere... I just can't find it.

Every now and then, the little envelope icon remains on my
toolbar even after I've checked my messages. I click on
ot and it says "operation failed" I believe that
somewhere the computer is seeing the old outlook messages,
including some I haven't read yet. AAARGH!

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against your .PST files to see if it finds
any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and run it.

Matt;
We're you able to finally retrieve your files? This is happening to me
and I want to know how I can retrieve them.

Please quote the post you are replying to, so that those of us who didn't
see the original, and don't want to wade through lots of read posts, can see
the problem?

thank you.
