Hi all,
Right here's the story, my pc with xp home edition refused to start (damaged
file in config/system32 or possible virus activity). Used xp disc to load
windows over the existing installation. I had my previous log-in password
protected and can no longer log onto it. I can see it in explorer but cannot
open the folders because it was previously protected. How can I get access
to these folders, I've tried adding a new log-in with the same name but it
does not work. Any idea's how to overcome this, I have music and photo's in
the folders that I'd like to transfer to another partition before doing a
format and clean install.
Thanks in advance.

goto www.linuxiso.org , download a knoppix cd, you can get to all your files
by booting off the CD. That's what I would do. While your there (if not
using NTFS) delete your sam file C:\windows\system32\config. If you delete
the sam file, a new one will be created with a blank administrator password.
However, if you encrypted your files, then you will need more help to get
them back. Another option is to take the disk out and grab your files.
