Lost Launch Bar Icons and Settings

Have been migrating from Win98 to a new computer with XP. Everything
was fine over the days of migrating. Just put computer into Standby and
when I came back, it was off...Is this unusual? And, when rebooted,
screen and fonts were back to default (they were customized before) and
all icons in the Launch bar were missing. I used SysRestore and
successfully restored to the previous day. Haven't run any virus or
hacker checks yet. I do use AVG and ZoneAlarm (both free) along with
the systems NAV. Although I must say that I haven't yet registered with
Norton and often it is off without my turning it off. Lastly, haven't
installed SP2, just SP1 that was preinstalled. What's happening?

Norton won't admit it but if it has expired, it really stops working although
you won't be able to tell until you get a virus and your computer starts
doing odd things.

Checked for viruses and hijacking...nothing. Used Restore to put most
things back in order.
