I don't know if this is the right group to be posting this in - if not, let me know and I'll move on. However, I would really be grateful for some help

As part of upgrading a pc from 98 to XP, I copied a few .jpeg files onto a couple of floppy discs and didn't seem to have any problems. The upgrade went fine. However when I try to view them on my own computer, which is running Windows 2000, some of the files are corrupt and cannot be opened

Is there anything I can do to recover this data? Is it possible to recover data from a floppy, or should I be looking at the hard disc of the upgraded pc, which was of course formatted during the upgrade. Should I be looking for a third party program maybe

Thanks in advanc

David

You say Windows 98 to XP then ask about Windows 2000. Are the files
viewable in Windows 98? Are the files viewable in Windows XP? If the
answer to those questions is yes, then the problem is either the program
you are trying to open them with in Windows 2000 or there is something
wrong with the floppy drive.

Yeah, they were originally on a 98 pc, I saved them to floppy and then upgraded the pc to XP. Now they won't open on the new XP box or on my own 2000 machine. The XP is using the standard Windows viewer, the 2000 pc is using IrfanView.

Were they checked on the 98 PC after they were copied to the floppy? In
other words did you try opening them after you copied them? The question
remains as to whether the "file" is actually corrupt or the NT systems
are having trouble with the diskette. Can you "copy" from the diskette
to the HD?
