I had problems with pop ups, ran ad-aware and subsequently lost internet
explorer.
I click on the IE icon, the hourglass spins, then disapears...?
If I alt-ctrl-del it shows IE running but I definitely don't have a browser
page or an offer for my modem to connect to the internet.
I have also run winsockxpfix.exe. No difference.
I can't back up to before the problem started because it was months ago and
I don't have a backup that far back. I suspect something in the registry and
have read that lspfix might do the job, but it comes with a word.doc telling
me that it may cause the whole machine to crash.
At the moment all I am short of is IE.
Any suggestions please

Successfully removing spyware can do that. That's why prevention is much
better than cure - better to avoid spyware in the first place.

With no backups of any kind you are really stuck. Time to reinstall. Try a
repair installation first. If you're lucky, it'll work. Backup you personal
files first. And don't wait for months to deal with a problem.
