I posted a question about NT Authority on 5/20/2007. I got some great
information, which luckily I copied to my computer. When I logged on to thank
the people who'd helped me, I couldn't find the post.

Do the forums have Advanced Search capability so you can search for
questions you've posted? Can you bookmark posts? Was my NT post deleted to
create room? If so, it's a shame. Many people would find the information
interesting.

I see it on my machine. I just sorted by the From: column and see your
post, with replies by Wesley Vogel, RedForeman and Rock.

The reason you're having such problems is that you are using the awful
web interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest, clunkiest,
most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a
newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See

Elizabeth,

If you are using the Microsoft web interface for accessing the forum you
will find you old post by searching for Elizabeth NT Authority in the "Search
For:" box at the top of the page.

1) If you are using Outlook Express or Outlook, just re-login to the same
newsgroup and use the "Search" button. Search for your screen name.

2) Yes, you absolutely can bookmark posts. After you post appears, click on
"Message" up top on the toolbar, then choose either "Flag Message" or "Watch
Message".

3) Only the number of headers you chose in setup (Tools | Options | Read |
Download "x number" of Headers) will stay visible when you first logon. To
retrieve the older posts, download "Additional Headers" by clicking on
"Tools" up on the toolbar, the choose "Get Next xx Headers". When finished,
you can go back and continue to click on it and download headers until the
day your post was made, shows up.

What you label a forum is actually a Usenet newsgroup that you are accessing
with the web interface. Frankly the web interface is awful for a variety of
reasons and you are experiencing one of them.

I suggest you use a newsreader to access these newsgroups. The experience
is much better. XP comes with Outlook Express. Here is a link to an
article that gives info on how to set up OE for newsgroup access. With OE
you can, among other things, filter to display all the threads you have been
involved in.

For now to find a previous post, the easiest way is to use Google Groups
Advanced Search. You can search in specific newsgroups, a family of
newsgroups, by author, keyword, subject and date.

Here is a link to that thread from a Google Groups search:

Outlook Express is great, but not for me. I used it recently for a research
project. It made the project so much easier. But I'm under constant attack,
and it gave them something else to mess with. For instance, I had it and
Yahoo set for text only. One day the download was very slow. Even though
neither my settings or my Yahoo settings had been changed, I was getting
posts with florid artwork containing who knows what kind of steganographic
horrors.

I also picked up a new, clumsy hacker completely different from the usual
one. Still, she was good enough to get into my ATT account and steal
sensitive information. I know it serves me right for researching paranoid
schizophrenics and keeping sensitive information on ATT mail.

I feel safer going to online forums, because I'm sure they have much better
firewalls than I do. But for the average person, OE is fantastic.

Thank all of you so much. I'm getting better. I found you by typing "Lost in
the Forum" in the search box. It was such an odd title that I didn't forget
it. As I said above, I can't use OE, but I agree that it's a wonderful tool.
