I completed a 20-page document, shut down computer last
night, now have 9 pages. First line on altered document
is the web address of a site I had accessed prior to
returning to work on my document. My computer is set for
automatic save, however, I periodically click on save.
Can't imagine how url got there. I am trying to recover
the initial 20-page document. I need it for a class that
I have to teach tonight. Totally distressed!!! Need
help right away please.

Unless you have Word set to create backup files, this file is almost
certainly lost. My guess is that you accidentally pasted the URL over a
block of selected text. :(

There is no autosave function built into Word - only an autorecover
function, which will not help you here. You can achieve autosave using a
macro - see http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm, but this will
only help for the future.

Try clicking the Undo - half circular arrow on the tool bar ( it will be darkened if you can do this). It may bring it back.
