Does anybody know where OE6 keeps its forlder files (in windows XP) ??
I accepted an automatic update to xp from MS when shutting down my computer
and on reboot I find I have lost all email records. Up to Windows 2000 they
where kept in .dbx files and not erased when one updated. Any help to recover
them appreciated.

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start>Run>Ctrl+V will put the location
in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the
location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP & 2K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder
Options>View.

DBXtract: {Cost: $5.00}

DBXpress: {$24.95, but much faster for large files}

In Control Panel/Folder Options/View, select Show hidden files and folders.
Then in Windows Explorer: C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Guid}\microsoft\Outlook Express\ ...
and that's where the mail folders are.

In addition to what the other replies have told you, you can use the XP
"Search" function to find them: Start/Search/All Files and Folders/type
"*.DBX" [less the quotation marks] in "All or part of the file
name"/under the "Look in" portion, be sure to select the Hard Drive upon
which XP is installed/click "More Advanced Options" and place a check
mark in the first three selections/click "Search" at the bottom. If you
cannot open them for viewing once you find them, you may have to take
"Ownership" of them again.

Thank you all who replied. However, I knew the location of the .dbx files OK
trouble is that the files found in this locationa re the .dbx files up to mid
2004 when I switched to XP from 2000. The messages from the start of the win
XP up to the day of the automatic update are missing. I REPEAT. I DID AN
AUTOMATIC UPDATE WHEN SHUTING DOWN AND THE NEXT TIME I HAVE LOST EMAIL
RECORDS UP TO TIME OF THE UPDATE. dbx files at the said location are ok but
up to start of XP some 11months ago.
