Yesterday I got a pop-up window stating something
like, "Microsoft Windows XP does not recognize some files
and it could affect the system performance. Please
reload Microsoft XP now."
This happened a few months back and I reloaded,
everything was restored as it was, nothing was lost; I
had all of my saved files and all installed software,
but, not this time. This time I lost everything! I've
got a never seen before main new screen and no software
(word, excel, etc) and I lost 2 years of MBA classes
documents, my Charter.net home page and email account.
We also lost all the Microsoft Money information we had
just loaded last weekend. I have the use of Internet
Explorer, but that's it. I did try the recovery feature
but it would not let me go back any earlier than 6:00 PM
Pacific last night? I needed to go back to Thursday,
July 24th to restore that configuration.
Also, since this reloading I get a Messenger Service Text
Box (never had this before) with the following message:
Message from SYSTEM ALERT to UNSAFE USER on 7/26/2003
10:42:20 AM

Dis you know that there is a one-click easy to stop these
pop-ups FOREVER? For free information, please visit

I'm desperate to restore the computer the way it was on
Thursday and recover all of my MBA files. I am currently
in the middle of my 11th of 16 MBA classes and use these
files daily. HELP PLEASE...

I won't even ask why you have two years worth of very important files which
you have not backed up on to some medium outside your computer to guard
against dead hard disks, theft, fire, earthquakes, volcanoes etc etc.
However, unless you have reformatted your hard drive your data should still
be there. It is not very clear from your post what you have done and where
the files have gone. Restore only affects System files, not data files.
