'Whenever I send/recieve a message it is stored in my contacts files.
Tonight I discovered all of the emails are missing from my contacts. What
can I do?

I don't understand what you mean. E-mail messages are stored in message
folders, not in Contacts folders. Where exactly did these messages
disappear from?

When I receive or send a message to a contact I can later look under
activities in that contacts folder and the emails are there. Now these
emails have all disappeared.

OK. In that case, right-click your Contacts folder, choose Properties, then
the Activities tab. Make sure all the folders you want the Activities to
check for items are listed. If not, make the necessary changes.

Jocelyn,

Thanks for your help. I do have everything listed. I think I have figured
out the problem but not how to solve it. The emails go into my contacts
folder and stay there until such time as I delete all my messages from the
deleted items folder. I was assuming they would stay in the contacts folder
even if I deleted them elsewhere. Is there a way to save them in the
contacts folder and still delete them from the deleted items folder?

No, because they're never really in the Contacts folder in the first place.
The Activities function just searches through your other folders and brings
up a list of the items in their original locations.

Thanks, now I understand. I have created a new folder where I send the
emails that I don't want to delete by mistake. I think that will work for
now.
