Lost Document

Posted for a colleague:

I worked on a document for over an hour last night. I apparently
failed to close it properly. I have AutoSave set to save I think
every 1 min. But I can't find the file, I done the usual
"Start/search", which didn't locate it, and my Word history doesn't
show that I worked on any documents on Aug. 21, when I worked on
several. Can someone provide detailed instructions on what I might
do?

If the documents weren't saved, there's nothing to do about it. Do a search
in Windows to see which files were modified. It sounds to me like perhaps
Word was not shut down properly (whether the user didn't shut it down
properly or Word has a problem, I don't know of course) and therefore didn't
save its settings, such as the MRU list of files. If the user continues to
have problems, have them troubleshoot their Word application and their PC:

There is no AutoSave, only AutoRecover, and it works only if the document is
