Using M.S. Word 2000 v. 9.03821 SR1
After making a change to an already saved and important .doc file I
decided not to make the correction ... Up came the window "Would you
like to save the changes?" and with a knee jerk reaction just hit the
"NO" button ... lost my many hours of preciously hard work.

Is there any way of retrieving the "deleted" file??

Thanks in advance for your input ... it's greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Graham ...

I enjoyed your site and after going to Tools/ Options/View/Save as
indicated on your site graphic, I do have Save AutoRecover set at
every 10 min. There was a file entitled "Copy of ~$ard bio.doc" which
could be a copy of the original "Board.doc" my original document ...
neither of which can be opened without some kind of update? Not
installed on my computer.

I also found, under site Locations that AutoRecover files were
present. Could that make a difference in retrieving the file? Even
when I enter Word as the Program that created the file, I can't open
it. Alack and alas.

Any other possibilities?

TIA

Autorecover files are special types of temporary file used by Word to
recover from crashes. I doubt they will help you recover the document.

Try opening all the files you suspect using the File\Open\ drop down menu
choice "Recover Text from Any File"
This will show you all files in the directory of your choice and open them
in Word so you can possibly retrieve something.

Good Luck

Thanks Mike ... I learned something from your comment. However alack
and alas it didn't resurrect the corpus. Started from scratch tho ...
not as good as original, but good enough.
