Lost Directory/File Access

I had to reinstall xp and I have an external maxtor
drive. Now all my directorys and files are inaccessable.
Help?? How do i change the permissions back so I can
access these files?

I hope you find an answer as I have a similar problem.

I have a second Maxtor drive and some of my files I can
no longer access. I get the error message "Access
Denied". I am told this is a "Permissions" problem.
