i had cut info from old disk and saved to new disk. when i tried to retrieve
info from new disk, an error message appeared, basically it couldn't read the
disk. my question is, can i retrieve info somewhere in the computer or is it
lost forever? thank you.

What is the entire error message? And what/where is this new disk,
i.e., slave on an existing IDE controller or a HD in an USB/Firewire
HD enclosure box, or even a CD-RW disc? Two difficult lessons to learn
is that the presence of backup always means that there are two copies
in existence. The second is to test whether the data can be retrieved
before removing one of the copies.
