Evidently, when Outlook is installed with the Internet
Mail Only option, the Windows address book entries aren't
converted and completely disappear. I was able to locate
the file, export it in comma separated values, then import
it into Outlook. I found it in Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article 196438 entitled "OL2000: (IMO) Windows Address
Book Entries No Longer Available After Outlook Setup".
Now, if I could only retrieve my Hotmail in Outlook 2000.
(Unbelievably, I found, you can't. I'm going to have to
upgrade to Outlook 2002, and I just got the *#@! thing
installed. So much for seamless integration.) What a
long night!!!

So what was the problem?

I have never used Outlook Express, or reconfigured
anything. And when I click on the icon for the Windows
address book, it is now empty. But I think I finally
found the info I need in the Microsoft knowledge base.
Thanks

But the Windows Address Book is the same as OE's
address
book.
Installing Outlook wouldn't touch the Windows Address
Book unless you had
previously configured the Windows Address Book to use
Outlook instead of its
own WAB file.

My question wasn't concerning Outlook Express. I
used
the
Windows address book by itself just to keep track of
my
contacts. When I installed Outlook, something
happened
to
it. Thanks anyway though.

Outlook Express uses the Windows Address Book: *.wab
(unless you had
configured it to use your Outlook Contacts Folder as
its
data source.)
You need to ask OE questions in an OE group.
