All,

I was on Absolute Poker the other night and have been playing this game for
a few months now without any problems at all. My system is a HP Pavilion
9680c w/PIII 650 mhz 768 ram with 2 hard drives 160 gig WD and 120 gig
Maxtor with DSL connection through Zoomtown.

I was playing online the other nite and out of the blue, as I was winning
good, my pc disconnected me and as I was trouble shooting this issue I
discovered that none of my software that updates would connect. Ex..Windows
Update no longer worked, AdAware and Spybot wouldn't update, McAfee wouldn't
update(older version that works fine :-)) However, I had an Internet
connection that worked. I could browse the internet, VPN to work and check
email, and while VPN is up I could also use remote desktop, etc... Anybody
have any thoughts on this for me?

What is really funny was after all of that troubleshooting and not being
able to get it working I did a restore image to just a few days earlier and
still had the problem??? Absolutes customer support has been useless....

I am currently working with an older PC that does work fine.

I've had a similar problem over the last couple of days with my home PC.
Can't update spybot, can't access internet via Mozilla Firefox, my default
browser but Internet Explorer, Morpheus and Google Earth are all ok. I
suspected the problem might have something to do with ZoneAlarm which appears
to be running however I can't open ZA, tried to uninstal it, couldn't, was
told there was a problem with True Vector Internet Monitor. I'm sending this
from work and can't remember exactly what the error message was. At one point
I also had the error message "socket error #10061, connection refused"
Don't suppose any of this helps but I'll be interested to read other replies

Looks like my suspicions were correct, rebooted tonight and had another go at
uninstalling ZA, succesful this time, rebooted and my problems seem solved.
Prior to problem developing my 5 year old PC had been running real slow so
I'd been trying to fix this, defrag and system restore resulting in
connection probs. Early days but now I've got rid of ZA everything seems much
faster. Had hoped to reinstal ZA but having trouble locating free version so
now using Windows firewall.

john,

Glad you got yours working again as well. :-) Just a thought though on the
ZA Firewall, some times while ZA is loaded on a Windows system, Windows
Firewall will also kick in and that WILL cause the problem you were speaking
of and you can also put it into learning mode and let it control it. Much
better than Windows built in firewall.

Sorry didn't mean to try preach :-)

I figured mine out as well. I kept telling myself it was the router/DSL
modem all along but I finally listened to myself for once. My DSL
connection has a DSL Router with a built in Firewall and I also have
Zonealarm, and after 8 years of using the free version have never had any
trouble with ZA, however it was the DSL Routers firewall for some reason
decided that it would stealth everything except internet, email, etc..must
have been blocking that port for updates, etc..Absolute Poker.

I adjusted the level of protection down by one notch and all is well here
too. And Like you my connection has seemed a little faster after resetting
everything and starting from scratch again????

Thanks for the follow up!!!

George
