lost cd rom and cd rw drivers

A new problem arises!!!

for some unknown reason, my computer no longer recognizes my 2 cd drives.
in the device manager, both cd drives have yellow exclaimation marks. I
would reload windows XP home version however, the cd roms are not seen in my
computer.

how does one go about fixing this issue???

It is usually the result of some added component used in CD burning
getting deleted and leaving a hanging reference in the registry. To
tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.

What happens is if i reformat my hard drive? when reinstalling xp,
will that bring back the cd roms?

Are the drives seen in the BIOS? Maybe the cables are loose.
