Does anybody know how I can repair the system restore
function in XP... I am trying to fix my friend's computer
but am having trouble since all of the system restore
points are gone. Is there any way to find those (or did
some spyware or adware program delete them purposely?)

Hi

Once the System Restore checkpoints have been deleted, they can't be
recovered.

The way to repair it is to turn off restore, reboot then turn it back on. This
has the effect of getting rid of any corrupt restore files.

Jay;
Once they are gone, they are gone.
Many things can cause loss of Restore Points, when they are gone, they
are gone and can not be recovered or used.
Some of the things are:
Available space on hard drive
Computer usage
Space you dedicate to System Restore
If you use Real Player, try doing without it for a few days:

And others.

There may be corrupted data in system Restore.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.
