Lost all e-mail during a "detect and repair"

I was having issues with Excel and did a "detect and repair". When I opened
my outlook I discovered that I lost my e-mail accounts and all my e-mails.
Could someone please help me recover my e-mail.
 
Detect and Repair never removes data. It may create a new Outlook profile
with a new data file if it detected a problem with your old one. Your old
data file is still where it always was and you can still use it. Just search
for the Outlook data files on your hard drive (*.pst) and open your previous
file in Outlook. The files are hidden.
 
With Outlook closed use the Mail Applet in the control panel to view your
profiles, it appears a new empty Profile may have been created.
 
I've imported every PST file on my PC and I still can't see a specific
folder that I had before the detect and repair? I also looked at the
profile in the control panel mail app and there was only one. Any
other ideas? Thanks for the help by the way! -DBT
 
Notice I told you to _open_ the file. Nowhere did I say to import, nor is
that ever the proper way to access Outlook data.
With a proper search and proper access of the file, it will turn up. Any
chance you ever took note of where your data was stored or backed it up?
 
Thanks everyone for responding. After I posted I did a system restore. It
restored the system to before I did the detect and repair. That also seemed
to do the trick.
 
So now whatever you needed Detect and Repair to fix is broken again.
Lucky for you that you had a settings problem and not a data problem. For
future reference, you never rely on system restore to restore your data
because it can't. Get in the habit of keeping track of where your data is
stored and making frequent backups of it.
 
I tried 'opening' the pst file and it still didn't work. Here is what
I am thinking. Originally, I imported a pst file and when it was in my
outlook folder structure, I deleted the original pst file. I figured
the imported emails would now be part of the main pst file. Now, when
I open or import the only pst files on my PC, the folder I am looking
for is not there anymore. I am assuming that outlook never really did
replicate those emails from that other pst file that I deleted and now
they are lost forever? Can you confirm? Thanks,

When you say "that didn't work," what do you mean exactly? What happens?

As flawed a process as importing is, it should still have transferred the
email to the target PST file (unless you failed to set the destination
folder correctly). It's also possible that the import created another folder
that you are not viewing. Make sure you use Folder List view so that you can
see your entire folder hierarchy.
