Lost access to Disk Defragmenter

Hi all,
Nothing I did intentionally, but I just lost access to my Wins XP, home ed.
Disk Fragmenter.
Clicking it on yields the message:
"MMC cannot open the file C:WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc."

I guess I could use system restore to recover whatever I lost?
Any suggestions, please?

Start>Run type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and make sure to put the
space before the /.
 
OOPs, did I blow it S.Sengupta?? I went to Kelly, downloaded No. 291, but my
defrag is not restored. Do I need to reboot to activate the registry change?
Should I try "sfc /scannow" as ssg MS-MVP suggested below/?

Thanks Guys, but my download of #291 from Kelly's Korner didn't restore my
Defrag. The same message appeared.
Neither did the other suggestion: When I ran "sfc /scannow" A box appeared
saying "can not find 'sfc /scannow', please check the path or........
Do you have any further thoughts?

mmc.exe seems to have issues with SP2, especially with ME native PCs. I'm
running into Extremely prolonged defrag executions. Sucks to be me. ;o)

You must re-register MSXML version 3.0. You can find the MSXML3.DLL in the \System32 folder.
run regsvr32 /u msxml3.dll first the run regsvr32 msxml3.dll.

Do you have a defragmenter for common sense?
 
Hi,

I have this same problem but I don't understand the kellys korner link, clicking on number 291doesn't download anything? Just takes me to a page with registry keys, I don't understand what I have to do, could someone explain please? :)
