I can't help you with OE; don't use it. But if you want to
spend a few $$$, you can go to

www.forteinc.com

And download FIRST a free, trial copy of

Forte Agent (what I'm using right now)

or go ahead and download the full Forte Agent.

Last I heard, it's the hands-down News reader.

Good luck!

Are the binaries YENC encoded? If they are, OE doesn't do YENC directly, in
fact, don't bother with OE for binaries at all. There are freeware
newsreaders that are light years ahead of OE; Xananews, 40tude Dialog, and
more.

Why would they want to do that, when they can use the free version to see if
they like the Agent format.
Personally, for downloading binaries Agent is the best platform I have
found.
And for once you are right, OE is useless for downloadng binaries.
OE is the best for peer support newsgroups, but that is their only saving
grace.
