Loss of size information when pasting image

I am using Powerpoint 2000.

If I insert an image from a file into a slide and look at the properties
size page I can see all the image's details for Height, Width, Scale factors
and change these as necessary. If I copy an image from another application
and paste it all these boxes are blank. Why does this happen? Is there a way
of getting this information to appear for pasted images?

Grateful for advice.

This is one of PowerPoint's kinder ways of telling you not to DO that. ;-)

Paste the images into an image editing program, save as JPG or PNG then insert
the JPG/PNG into PPT using Insert, Picture, From File.
