I have 1GB of RAM which used to show as such if I look at my computer/properties, but just recently it has shrunk to 576mb. Where has the rest gone and can I get it back please?

Thank you.

Veronica

Could be a variety of things, including a bad or loose stick of RAM.

Go to Start/run, type cmd and then mem at the prompt. Report back here with the result.

The result is as follows:
655360 bytes total conventional memory
655360 bytes available to MS-DOS
627264 largest executable program size
1048576 bytes total contiguous extended memory
0 bytes available for contiguoius extended memory
941056 bytes available XMS memory
MS-DOS resident in high memory area

All Greek to me but I am sure it is crystal clear to you.

Thanks

That is almost exactly what mine says but mine reports 1GB in properties.

I wonder if you have onboard video that is "Sharing" RAM with the main
processor?

In that case I think your video drivers might be "Stealing" it, although I
have to say that's just a guess - I think it should still show up in
properties.

Looks good to me, however the 'k' key on your keyboard is defective.

I reported the results of the cmd/mem test before as you suggested. Does this help at all?

Thanks

I have the same issue, I have an IBM laptop T30 with 760mb of ram, I have run
winxp pro for several years now. recently i had to reimage my pc and
reinstall winxp pro. It showed all the memory before I did 24 patches
updates. After that i was down to 256mb. Basically I have two sticks of
memory one 512mb and one 256mb. No matter what i do it will only see one
stick of ram. so i put the 512mb in so the pc would at least run ok. Thank
You for any and all help.
