Hi there,
i have a massive loss of disk space during the day. At the end of the day i
miss about 3-5 GB of space. If i restart my laptop i have the space back.
no virus scanner (xp, linux) reports a problem.
you can't see the space in a folder or in a file (neather temp nor hidden),
it's simply gone.?????
i have the problem stand allone and in the network environment.
can anyone give me a hint how to find the reason?

thank you

You can download a real-time disk activity program from SysInternals
called Filemon. You should be able to watch the display and determine
what file is being accessed and where on the drive it exists. Afterwards,
you'll have to run down the cause (Malware, BootVis) and stop the
process/app from running.

Hi R.,

i already done it. I don't see anything. Everything seems to be normal. Only
writes from "normal" applications.

thank you

Hi

You can use this program to try to see where the used
disk space is going:

SequoiaView

You might check whether System Restore is part of the problem:
How to Gain Access to the System Volume Information Folder

Are you using any Norton Utilities? Norton Protected Storage.

You can keep Sytem Restore size in check -see the More Options tab in
Disk Cleanup.

Hi there,

i think i found the problem.
It seems that Bootvis was the bad guy.
There was slightly same posting in the group about loosing disk space and it
was bootvis too. But on my system the temp-file and the trace-file was not
growing!!!
There was only a reduction of disk space.

Thank you all for the help!
