losing user setting when switching to domain

user computers are currently connected to workgroups. and now we want to switch to the domain. when i configured the domain i lost all the user desktop setting, documents, etc. i tried to copy the user profile of admin. profile is aout 1.30 GB.but that is not copying. can you help me in this matter

Yes, for some reason windows creates a new user account rather than using
the old workgroup one.
If you're having problems copying, you can try logging into the old account,
use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to export old settings then
import them after logging into the new account.
"To open the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, click Start, point to All
Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Files
and Settings Transfer Wizard. "
 
is any specific reason behind it because we have to transfer the desktop setting of whle network of 100 computers
